June 1, 2011 Special School Board Meeting The School Board will meet in special session on Wednesday June 1, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Tredyffrin/Easttown Administration Offices at 940 West Valley Road, Suite 1700 in Wayne.   The School Board will vote on the final budget at its regular meeting on June 13, 2011 at 7:30 pm at Conestoga High School. The meeting agenda will be available prior to the meeting on the T/E School District web site. The T/E School Board has encouraged public participation throughout the budget development process. Public comment has been received during Committee and Board meetings and any further public comments may be submitted to Arthur J. Please note that dates and times of events are subject to change, so please confirm event information throughout the school year by checking the District calendar and school calendars on the TESD web site or by contacting the school's main office.   Many school-level events and activities are only listed on the individual school calendars and may not be included on the District calendar. School calendars may be accessed from the TESD web site by clicking on "Schools" and then selecting the name of the school. From the school's web site, select "Calendar" at the top of the page. School Board Approves Proposed 2011-2012 Final Budget  At its regular meeting on May 9, 2010, the T/E School Board approved the 2011-2012 proposed final budget. The 2011-2012 proposed final budget includes a property tax increase of 3.77%; which results in $3.2 million in revenue, or $171 to the average assessed T/E homeowner; $3.85 million in expense reductions and revenue enhancements; and $2.25 million in fund balance contribution to address the $8.9 million gap between revenues and expenditures. To generate additional revenue to address the projected budget imbalance, the School Board directed the administration in January 2011 to apply to the State for referendum exceptions to the Act 1 tax rate limit. School Board Seeks Residents to Join Tax Study Group The T/E School Board is seeking interested residents of Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships to join a citizen Tax Study Group. This citizen group will study the effect that an Earned Income Tax (EIT) would have on the school district and its residents. Following its study, the Tax Study Group will present the pros and cons of an EIT to the School Board and community members. The Tax Study Group will meet up to eight times through the months of September and October 2011. Tax Study Group members must be willing to be introduced publicly and participate at televised meetings.     Community members who are interested in applying to be part of the Tax Study Group may apply on-line at the T/E School District web site. Paper copies of the application may be picked up at the T/E School District Business Office at 940 West Valley Road, Suite 1700 in Wayne. All applications must be submitted by June 15, 2011. School Board to Vote on Proposed 2011-2012 Final Budget at May 9th Meeting The School Board will present and vote on the proposed 2011-2012 final budget at its regular meeting on May 9, 2011 and then vote on the final budget at its June 13, 2011 regular meeting. Finance Committee Reviews Budget Strategies and Recommends Proposed Final Budget at May 2nd Workshop The T/E School Board Finance Committee met on May 2, 2011 to discuss the 2011-2012 budget and recommend a proposed final budget to be voted on by the Board at the May 9, 2011 regular school board meeting.   The Finance Committee is working on a proposed final budget that includes a tax increase of 3.77%. Tax increases for the 2011-2012 school year are limited to 1.4% by Act 1, the Pennsylvania Taxpayer Relief Act. To generate additional revenue, the School Board directed the administration in January 2011 to apply to the State for referendum exceptions to the Act 1 tax rate limit. The State approved the District's application for exceptions, providing the School Board with the option to raise taxes above the Act 1 index by an additional 2.37%, for a total tax increase of 3.77%.   Throughout the year, the Finance, Education and Facilities Committees have studied budget strategies to address the budget deficit.
