School Board Defeats Motion to Provide Notification to Townships on Intent to Levy Earned Income Tax   EIT Referendum Question Will Not Appear on April 2012 Primary Election Ballot At a special meeting on November 14, 2011, by a vote of 7-2, the T/E School Board voted not to move forward with an earned income tax (EIT) referendum at this time. November 16, 2011, is the deadline for the School Board to provide non-binding notification to Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships of the School District's intent to include a voter referendum question for an EIT on the April 24, 2012 primary election ballot. School districts must obtain voter approval by means of a voter referendum on the primary election ballot in order to levy an EIT. The Board's decision followed a presentation of the Earned Income Tax Study Group report on the pros, cons and other considerations of implementation of an EIT.   Click here for a recap of the meeting. November 14, 2011 Finance Meeting and Special School Board Meeting Agendas The School Board will meet in special session on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm in the Conestoga High School cafeteria to consider notification to Tredyffrin and Easttown Townships of the intent to levy an earned income tax.  Click here for the meeting agenda.   The Finance Committee will meet at 6:30 pm on November 14, 2011 in the Conestoga High School cafeteria prior to the Special School Board Meeting at 7:30 pm. EIT Presentation Slides and Video Clip  The Tax Study Group November 3, 2011 Earned Income Tax Presentation slides are available on the T/E School District web site.   A video clip of question and answer session from the EIT Presentation is also available on the T/E School District web site. Click here for the video clip. The video will automatically begin after it is finished loading. The EIT Presentation is currently airing on TETV, Comcast Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20, at 9:00 pm daily through November 14, 2011. 2011-2012 Conestoga High School Profile The latest annual Conestoga High School Profile, a brochure that provides an overview of Conestoga High School and includes information on curriculum, test scores and college destinations, is now available on the T/E School District web site. Tredyffrin Township     E-Newsletter November 2011     EVENTS  Election Day   Municipal elections take place on Tuesday, November 8th. To find out where you vote, please visit our voting information page.   The League of Women Voters organized a Township Board of Supervisors candidate debate, which took place on October 24th. Watch it on our public access channel through November 7th, Mondays and Fridays @ 8:30 pm, Tuesdays and Saturdays @ 7:30 am & 1:30 pm or watch anytime on our new Public Access TV website.   Berwyn Fire Company Turkey Raffle   Berwyn Fire Company is holding its annual Turkey Raffle on Wednesday, November 16th, 7 pm, 23 Bridge Avenue, Berwyn. Come support one of the busiest fire and EMS departments on the Main Line!   Winter Recreation Program    Information on the Winter Recreation Program for boys and girls in Kindergarten through 6th grade at the Valley Forge Elementary School is now available online. Please click here for more information.   Battle of Paoli Public Recognition Meeting   The Historical Commission has been working on a project that is part of Chester County's grant-funded Battle of Paoli American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP). The County will present the final outcome of the Battle of Paoli American Battlefield Protection Grant and honor the dedicated work of the Historical Commissions who made this project possible on Wednesday, November 30th, 7 pm - 9 pm, Easttown Library. A special presentation will be made to each participating Historical Commission during the program. See this flyer for details on how to RSVP for this exciting event!   NEWS Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test   As part of their ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for all hazards, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information, should it ever be needed. The first nationwide test will be conducted Wednesday, November 9th, 2 pm. This test may last up to three and a half minutes, and, similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.” When the test is over, regular programming will resume. On November 9th at 2 pm EDT, please remember: Don’t stress; it’s only a test.   Tredyffrin Public Library is Closed for Renovation   Full Library Closing: In order to complete improvements to the building, the library closed on October 25th and will reopen Thursday, November 10th. You will still be able to drop off items in the book drops outside in the parking lot.   The Library’s large meeting room will be open as a polling place for voting on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th. The parking lot and meeting room will be available to voters and the book drop in the entry hallway will be accessible for returns. The remainder of the building will be closed.   Assistance Still Available for Damage from Hurricanes Irene and Lee The deadline is nearing for residents and business owners who had damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee to apply for disaster assistance. The registration deadline is November 14th, 2011. The deadline to submit a disaster loan application to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses is also November 14th, 2011. November 3, 2011 Earned Income Tax Presentation The Tax Study Group will offer its findings regarding an Earned Income Tax at a presentation to the community on November 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. and then again at 7:00 pm. All community members are encouraged to attend so that they could make an informed decision in the event that an EIT question is placed on the primary election ballot in April 2012.   Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Tredyffrin/Easttown Administration Offices, 940 West Valley Road, Suite 1700 in Wayne, or  Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Valley Forge Middle School, 105 W. Walker Road, Wayne  The presentation will be taped and aired on T/E TV, Comcast Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20, at 9:00 pm daily beginning November 4, 2011.   Click here for more information on the Tax Study Group. 2012-2013 School Year Calendar The School Board adopted the 2012-2013 school year calendar at its regular meeting on October 24, 2011.    The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 will be September 4, 2012. New TE Board Talk Airs on TV and On-Line The latest TE Board Talk program is currently airing on T/E TV, Comcast Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20 at 6:00 pm daily.
