Tredyffrin Township Hurricane Sandy Update

Tredyffrin Township

       Hurricane Sandy Update

There are still areas within the Township that are being cleared from downed wires and trees. We ask residents to please continue to use discretion and caution when travelling. Do not go around barricades and always avoid downed wires. If you are walking, please stay on streets and sidewalks, and do not cut through yards or walk through leaves.

Here is the most current list of areas in the Township that are still considered hazardous. Please note that the status of these areas may change with ongoing weather conditions and as road crews continue to work to resolve the situation. Please continue to check our website, www.tredyffrin.org for updates.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and stay safe.

Residential Composting Site

This year, residents will be hauling materials to the site at 1542 Mill Road. For more information, including accepted materials and times for drop-off, please click here.

Adopt-an-Inlet Program

As you may be all too aware, certain areas of Tredyffrin are prone to flooding, and some of this flooding is directly related to stormwater inlets becoming covered with leaves, grass, and debris. The Township has over 3,000 stormwater inlets and only limited staff to maintain them. We need your help!

The Public Works Department is asking residents to Adopt an Inlet. This program asks residents who have a street or rear-yard stormwater inlet to make sure they are cleaned off and unobstructed. Once the debris is cleared the inlets can drain properly. If you have an inlet anywhere near your home, please be a good neighbor and keep it clear.

For more information, please click here. If you participate, please feel free to let us know or provide feedback at tredyffrin@tredyffrin.org!

Artist of the Month Series

The Artist of the Month Series sponsored by the Delaware Valley Art League continues in October. The work of artists Angela Scully of Strafford and Ozzie DiSciullo of Chesterbrook, both Township residents, is on display in the Community Room at the Township Building. Stop in and view the art of some of your friends and neighbors.

The artwork will be available for sale by the individual artists. To purchase a painting, contact the artist directly or the Artist of the Month Coordinator, Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, call 610-296-2014, or email.

For more information on the Delaware Valley Art League, you can visit their website: www.delawarevalleyartleague.com.

First Annual Tree-dyffrin Event Update

In late September, Township volunteers and Cabrini College students planted the 250 trees in the Township’s first Tree-dyffrin event, which we hope will be an annual effort to increase the number of native trees in our community. Native plantings help to reduce mowing, provide shelter and nutrition for local species, and work to control storm water problems created by too much paving and large areas of turf.

For more information on this initiative, including why you are seeing those green tubes around Wilson Farm Park, please click here.

Winter Recreation Program Details are Available Online!

This winter, Tredyffrin will hold its traditional Winter Recreation Program as well as a new program run in conjunction with GROOVE. Check out all the options and download registration forms, by visiting the Township's Park & Recreation page!

In addition, there will be a free demonstration at the Tredyffrin Public Library on November 1st at 9:30 am of GROOVE's TOT Rock program being offered this winter.

Zoning Ordinance Amendments

In the last month, there have been two enacted ordinance amendments to the Township Zoning Ordinance. The first involves adding an additional use (An assisted living facility along with ancillary and incidental support services for the residents of the facility) to the C-1 Zoning District and the second creates an Overlay District in the Trout Creek Watershed area of the Township. For full details, including copies of the ordinance amendments, please click here.

Proposed Changes to Chapter 4 Regulations - Impact on Graduation Requirements
The State Board of Education has proposed changes to the Chapter 4 regulations regarding high school graduation and the implementation of the Keystone Exams for Pennsylvania students. Before any regulatory changes take effect, a mandatory review process is conducted. The first step in the review process is a 30 day public comment period, which opened on October 6, 2012. The Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) receives public comment and makes recommendations for revision. After the IRRC review, State legislators have an opportunity to provide input.

Click here for more information on the proposed regulations as well as a sample letter and contact information for the IRRC, local legislators and the State Board of Education. Letters and comments to the IRRC must be received by November 5, 2012.

Conestoga Students Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Corporation

Thirty-five Conestoga High School students have been recognized as National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists.

This achievement ranks them among the top 1% of juniors in the nation. These students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as high school juniors. They will go on to compete as finalists and perhaps become eligible for scholarships through the National Merit Corporation or its sponsoring organizations.

In addition, thirty-nine of Conestoga's students have been recognized for their achievement as National Merit Commended Scholars and three Conestoga students have been recognized as National Hispanic Scholars.

National Merit semifinalists, commended scholars and Hispanic scholars will be recognized for their achievement on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Conestoga High School. The T/E School District community congratulates these students for their outstanding accomplishment.
