Inspection & Permit Services

Now that we recently took our annual leap towards the much anticipated change in seasons, clocks notwithstanding, I'd like to congratulate and thank all of our residents and public works staff for an almost seamless trek through a very cold and interesting winter as again, our roads and sidewalks were maintained in the best tradition of the Township.

As always, with this change in time, the very important regimen of changing the batteries in our smoke detectors is here. Please, if you haven't already, make a note to pick up those batteries this week while at the store so that the peace of mind we sometimes take for granted can be maintained as well as those roads and sidewalks were last month.

Keep in mind, however, with most man-made things, these instruments of safety do not last forever. If you experience any difficulty testing, hearing or changing the batteries, I would suggest replacing the entire device without a second thought.

You may also want to think about carbon monoxide protection. The building code requires a minimum of one CO device in each dwelling structure that has a fuel fire heating appliance (your furnace). These easily obtainable devices may be placed on any floor, preferably on the same floor as the equipment, and can be plugged right into a wall outlet. If you are replacing faulty or old smoke detection devices, "combination smoke/CO detection" devices are readily obtainable as well.

On behalf of the Department of Inspections and Permit Services, congratulations again on getting through the winter with me. Enjoy the new change in seasons and have a safe start to Spring!
