Budget Update: School Board Approves 2011-2012 Preliminary Budget Administration Authorized to Seek Approval to Discontinue Latin and German Program in Grades 6-8 At its regular meeting on January 24, 2011, the T/E School Board approved the proposed 2011-2012 preliminary budget. Current budget projections indicate that the T/E School District could face a budget imbalance of approximately $8.8 million as a result of local revenue erosion, contracted salary obligations, healthcare benefits, special education needs and mandated increases in state retirement contributions. The approved preliminary budget authorizes the administration to seek approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for Act 1 referendum exceptions which would allow the Board to raise taxes above the Act 1 index of 1.4%. The 2011-2012 preliminary budget includes a projected 4.2% property tax increase, which translates to an increase of $191 to the average assessed T/E homeowner.   Click here for the full press release.   Click here for the budget section of the TESD web site. New Last Day of School and Make-Up Day Schedule Due to the additional emergency closing days on January 26 and 27, the new tentative last day of school for students in grades 1-12 is a half day on Friday, June 17, 2011.  Click here for a single page summary of the revised 2010-2011 school calendar. The school year calendar has been adjusted to reflect three make-up days. Should there be future emergency closing days, the lost instructional days will be made up as follows, beginning with Day 4: Day 1: June 15, 2011 Day 2: June 16, 2011 Day 3: June 17, 2011 Day 4: March 28, 2011 Day 5: April 18, 2011 Day 6: April 19, 2011 Day 7: April 20, 2011 Day 8: April 21, 2011   At its discretion, the School Board reserves the right to further reschedule instructional days by using days when school is not in session. January 24, 2011 Regular School Board Meeting Recap The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board met in regular session on January 24, 2011 at 7:30 pm in the Tredyffrin/Easttown Administration Offices at 940 West Valley Road, Suite 1700 in Wayne.    The meeting is currently airing on T/E TV, Comcast Cable Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20, at 9:00 pm daily and at 10:00 am on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.   Click here for a recap of the meeting. Revised School Calendars: New Last Day of School in June 2011 and Change to 2011-2012 Calendar   Due to the emergency closing on January 18, 2011, the new tentative last day of school for students in grades 1-12 is a half day on Wednesday, June 15, 2011.  Click here for a single page summary of the revised 2010-2011 school calendar. Next year's calendar, the 2011-2012 school year, has also been adjusted. There will be no school on Monday, January 2, 2012 since it is a federal holiday to celebrate New Year's Day. As a result, an additional day has been added at the end of the school year, making June 12, 2012 the tentative last day of school for students. Budget Update: T/E School Board to Continue Budget Discussion at February 14, 2011 Finance Committee Meeting The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board Finance Committee met on January 10, 2011 to discuss the 2011-2012 budget and level 1 cost cutting strategies. WINTER STORM ORDINANCE

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department, Public Works Department, the local fire departments and the EMS responders all need your help during winter storms! The Public Works crews spend countless hours trying to safely clear the streets during snow events.  The added burden of re-clearing public roadways create both logistic and safety issues; not to mention a drain on the Township budgetary funds. Accumulated snow in the streets can slow emergency response and increase the threat to public safety! Pushing or plowing snow into the streets is now prohibited by the Township Ordinance. Additionally, during declared snow emergencies, do not park vehicles on the streets that are listed in the designated snow emergency routes as parking on these streets during declared snow emergencies is now prohibited by Ordinance.  Vehicles parked in the streets along snow emergency routes make it harder for emergency vehicles to respond to emergencies, and for Public Works crews to clear the roads for them.  A list of these snow route streets is on the Township website.   Finally, in addition to the clearing a 24 inch path on the sidewalk 30 hours after a snow storm, please also remember to clear out fire hydrants located next to the streets on which your property borders as this is now required by ordinance. Your cooperation with these vital winter storm requirements will improve the safety of our community!
