TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP
PRESS RELEASE

Contact: William F. Martin, Township Manager; wmartin@tredyffrin.org, 610-644-1400

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tredyffrin Township declares Snow Emergency effective Tuesday, February 4, 11pm to Wednesday, February 5, 6pm

Berwyn, PA (February 4, 2014): Tredyffrin Township will be declaring a snow emergency effective Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 11pm and ending Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 6pm. In addition to the travel restrictions associated with this declaration, the Township is strongly urging residents to stay home if possible. The combination of snow and ice will make road conditions very hazardous for travel.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from February 4, 11pm until February 5, 1pm for Eastern Chester County, which includes extremely hazardous snow and ice conditions. This storm will be impacting the region starting tonight, and is expected to bring significant icing due to freezing rain, as well as the potential for 6+ inches of snow. The icing and snow will make travel difficult. There is the potential for a major icing event, which would result in damage to tree limbs and power lines.

Widespread power outages are anticipated. Please contact your electric and gas providers to report outages, and be prepared for potential long-term periods without power. PECO: 1-800-841-4141; PPL: 1-800-342-5775; MET ED/1st Energy: 1-888-544-4877.

The Township Department of Public Works and PennDOT work around the clock to maintain roads
within the Township. Please remember that it takes 8 to 10 hours after a storm ends to complete clean
up, assuming normal conditions.

Updates will be posted on www.tredyffrin.org, facebook, and twitter.

Snow Emergency details can be found at www.tredyffrin.org.

Tredyffrin Township Declares Snow Emergency

TREDYFFRIN TOWNSHIP
PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tredyffrin Township Declares Snow Emergency: February 3rd, 2014 until 8 pm

Berwyn, PA (February 3, 2014)

Due to weather conditions, Tredyffrin Township has issued a snow emergency as authorized by Section 195-41 of the Tredyffrin Township Codebook of Ordinances. This will assist in snow removal and the safe passage of emergency vehicles. The Emergency will end at 8 pm unless you receive further notification.

After a snow emergency is declared, it shall be unlawful, at any time during the continuance of the emergency, for any person, firm or corportation:

• To park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any snow emergency route designated pursuant to this article; or

• To drive any vehicle on any such snow emergency route unless that vehicle is equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable tract devices; or

• To drive any vehicle which then becomes stuck on any snow emergency route during a snow emergency because of or related to the failure of that vehicle to be equipped with snow tires, chains, or other suitable traction devices.

The list of designated emergency routes is listed at www.tredyffrin.org.

In addition, please remember:

• Residents are responsible for clearing clear snow, sleet, and ice from the sidewalks in front of their property no more than 30 hours after a storm. For stubborn icy spots, be sure to use ice control methods such as salt or sawdust.

• Trash receptacles may not be placed on the street. This inhibits the snow removal vehicles from doing their job. Residents should place trash cans either on the lawn or curb in front of their property.

• Residents should avoid parking in cul-de-sacs. If they must park in a cul-de-sac or they leave their vehicle on or near the highway, they should notify the Police Department by calling (non-emergency) 610-644-3221 or call 911.

• After the storm ends, it will take approximately 8 -10 hours to complete the clean up, assuming normal conditions.
The Police Department suggests the following if you should be involved in an accident (crash) during the winter weather event:

• If you are involved in a "crash" during a snow or ice event, dial 911 immediately. Do not wait or attempt to exit your vehicle to access any possible vehicle damage.

• If able, safely drive your vehicle from the travel portion of the roadway to a nearby safe shoulder to avoid any additional possible hazards and/or accidents.

• Stay with your vehicle (inside with seat belt on) if safety permits and await the emergency responders.

• If you feel ill or are injured as a result of the accident be sure to provide the 911 dispatcher this detailed information. Also provide any medical history (i.e. heart or diabetic conditions) that is relevant.
