School Board Discusses State of Budget and PSERS Funding Crisis at Budget Workshop  The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board held a community Budget Workshop on March 19, 2012 at Conestoga High School. The workshop updated the community on the 2012-2013 school budget with an emphasis on the Pennsylvania School Employee Retirement System (PSERS) funding crisis. The Budget Workshop is currently airing on T/E TV, Comcast Channel 14 and Verizon Channel 20 at 5:00 pm daily.    Following opening remarks from School Board President Karen Cruickshank, District Business Manager Art McDonnell presented the impacts on the 2012-2013 school budget including continued revenue erosion; mandated special education costs and increased PSERS employer contribution rates. Continuing on the topic of PSERS, Dr. David Davare from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and Jay Himes from the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials presented data on PSERS state and local funding. In his presentation on PSERS funding, Mr. Himes outlined the possible consequences of the projected PSERS expense increases and the impact on Pennsylvania school districts. These consequences include more program and personnel cuts, more distressed school districts and fewer school districts as a result of consolidations and mergers. Senator Andy Dinniman and Representatives Warren Kampf and Duane Milne attended the Workshop and provided a legislative perspective on PSERS as well. March 19, 2012 Budget Workshop: 2012-2013 Budget and PSERS Funding Crisis On Monday, March 19, 2012, the Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board will hold a public Budget Workshop focusing on key aspects of the budget including 2012-2013 enrollments and needed staffing, revenue projections, and state and federal funding. The Budget Workshop will also include presentations on the Pennsylvania School Employee Retirement System (PSERS) funding crisis and the impact on Pennsylvania school districts. The Workshop will be held at 7:30 pm in the Conestoga High School auditorium at 200 Irish Road in Berwyn. The public is encouraged to attend to learn more about the budget and how retirement funding is affecting school district budgets. New! Spring Soccer Program

Dear Resident,

Tredyffrin Township is pleased to announce that it is offering two separate 8-week spring sessions, in partnership with Soccer Shots, at Wilson Farm Park. Soccer Shots is a national soccer program, designed specifically for 3 to 6 year-olds. The objective of Soccer Shots is to introduce your child to the sport of soccer, using fun, creative and imaginative games to teach them the basic skills of the game. In addition to learning soccer, your child will be encouraged in group and team play fundamentals, active lifestyle habits, strong character skills, sportsmanship, manners, and more. Soccer Shots sessions are led by highly skilled soccer instructors who offer a quality, high-energy soccer session wrapped in fun! The goal is for Soccer Shots to become the highlight of your child's week!

Tredyffrin Township     E-Newsletter March 2012     NEWS & EVENTS  2013 Budget Discussions   During 2012, Tredyffrin will review the services provided by a different Township department each month at a Board of Supervisors' public meeting, as well as revenue sources available to pay for those services. The goal is to engage in public dialogue that will lead to goals for the 2013 budget that begins in the fall. The services involved with maintaining streets and storm sewers will be presented Monday, March 19th, 2012, 7:30 pm. Trout Creek Stormwater Overlay District Ordinance Public Hearing     Tredyffrin Township has introduced a zoning ordinance amendment to develop an overlay district in the Trout Creek Watershed. The overlay district is intended to encourage redevelopment on large properties in the Trout Creek Watershed that will include substantial public stormwater facilities to better manage runoff.   The Township has conducted studies to evaluate and develop recommendations to improve the condition of the Trout Creek Watershed and address flooding in the Glenhardie area. The zoning amendment is part of the implementation effort. Please click here for an overview of the studies and the ordinance.   There will be a community meeting on Thursday, March 8th, 7 pm in the Township Building to discuss stormwater and flooding problems along Trout Creek. Stephen Burgo, Township Engineer, will present results of a 2010 study of the watershed and recommendations for improvements.   The next Board of Supervisors' Public Hearing for the ordinance amendment is on Monday, March 19th, 7:30 pm in the Township Building. Police Department Learning Series     The Police Department is hosting a 12 part learning series. Classes will be held on the last Thursday of every month at the township building from 7 to 9 pm. The next class will be held on Thursday, March 29th in Keene Hall, and the topic will center on Megan’s Law. The recent class held on February 23rd focusing on “Identity Theft” will air on the cable access channel for the month of March. Town Hall Meeting with Warren Kampf   State Representative, Warren Kampf, is hosting a Town Hall Meeting at the Tredyffrin Township Building on Sunday, March 18th, 4 pm - 6 pm. The topic is Pensions and Schools. Please see this flyer for all the details. Police Alert   Tredyffrin Township and surrounding communities have been experiencing an increase in home burglaries and vehicle break-ins. Please secure your property and report any suspicious persons or activity to Police by dialing 911 immediately.   To further assist you, please review this home safety checklist.   We are working to reduce crime and victimization in our community but we need your help! Act 537 Public Notice   The Township is issuing a Public Notice that it has prepared a Special Study to the ACT 537 Plan Revision for the Valley Creek Trunk Sewer (VCTS), which services Tredyffrin and surrounding communities. A 30-day review and comment period is in effect as of February 29th, 2012, and a copy of the Study is available at the Township building during normal business hours or you can click here to see the online version.
