DVAL Artist Series The Artist-of-the-Month exhibit in the Community Room returns in September with local artists Judy Fox, Delphinium Art, and Patricia Riley. Having spent most of her life as a software engineer, Judy always attended art classes and continues to explore and enjoy painting more every day. Because of her strong love of nature and everything that grows, she tries to capture color and form on paper and canvas. Traveling has provided Judy with a broader range of subject matter including blue domed churches in Greece and aqua waters in the Virgin Islands. In 2012, she received the Ruth Thompson Memorial Award for her Japanese Tea Garden at Golden Gate Park. Patricia Riley has been drawing all her life, sometimes to the dismay of teachers who felt math problems should be solved, not illustrated. Perhaps; but she went on to write and illustrate Carlotta and the Scientist and illustrate several other picture books as well as elementary school textbooks, and she was an early member of Lollipop Power, Inc., a feminist children’s book publisher. Recently, Patricia discovered pastel painting and is now focusing her energies on this new passion. Patricia feels there’s a peacefulness, meditative quality, to being absorbed by a painting and the vibrancy and immediacy of pastels allows her to try to capture this on paper. Stop in and view Judy’s and Patricia’s artwork through the month of September at the Township Building! |
