SPECIAL EDITION - STREAMS

Streams and Yard Waste

Streams and creeks add great value and character to the landscape and life in Tredyffrin Township.  They can also present problems through flooding.  Residents who live near these watercourses can help by making sure that yard waste is not deposited in these areas.

Adding such material to the streams can cause elevation of the water during storms that leads to increased flooding.  Chances of flooding can also increase when the yard waste is washed down stream and collects in culverts and drains clogging them.

It’s easy to do your part to protect our streams and drainage systems:

1. Do not pile leaves or other yard waste near streams or drainage channels where they can blow or wash into creeks.  Solution:  Consider collection and disposal at Township leave compost/collection site, or compost in a designated area in your yard.

2. Do not blow leaves or grass clippings off your property into streets, streams, ponds or drainage swales.  Solution:  Consider composting because debris covering inlets or in streams can lead to flooding in your neighborhood.

3. Recycle grass clippings and compost leaves along with yard waste. Select a location removed from streams, ponds and wetlands.

The Township thanks you for doing your part to nullify the effects of stream blocking and clogging .

In the event of extreme weather or emergency, please check the Township website or facebook page for updates and information.
