First Annual Tree-dyffrin Event

On Saturday, September 29th , from 8:30 am - 12:00 noon in Wilson Park, Tredyffrin Township will hold its first community tree planting event, entitled "Tree-dyffrin." Trees will be donated from TreeVitalize (www.treevitalize.net), a private/public partnership which receives funding from Philadelphia Flower Show proceeds. TreeVitalize's mission is to plant 20,000 trees in the 5-county Philadelphia Metro region, citing the many benefits we all enjoy living in a leafier community, including: cleaner air, more shade, higher property values, and better storm water control. The Wilson Park trees will be planted in a riparian buffer area in order to contribute to our Township's ongoing storm water management efforts. Tredyffrin Township organizers hope this Tree-dyffrin event is the first of many tree planting community days.

The Tree-dyffrin event needs approximately 20 adult volunteers to get the job done, and kids of all ages accompanied by adults are welcome to pitch in. Volunteers are asked to bring a shovel and other garden tools of your choice, all marked with your name.  Come out and participate in this fun community project with your family, friends, and neighbors! Even if you can only join us for an hour you can be part of the effort. To sign up to volunteer, please email Tredyffrin@tredyffrin.org or call 610-644-1400.

School is Open! Driving Tips from the Police Department

Tredyffrin Township Police in partnership with the AAA Motorists Association Safety Campaign reminds us that with each new school year, we must remain cautious with our driving habits and pay strict attention to traffic laws; especially in the area of school bus stops and school zones. The greatest safety threat children face today is motor vehicle crashes. While walking, cycling or as a passenger in a motor vehicle, these crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 and older. The problem escalates during the months children are in school. Children are vulnerable for several reasons: They are small and less visible to motorists; It is more difficult for children to judge traffic situations, because their peripheral vision is one-third narrower than an adult's; Children do not always possess the capability to make sound judgments; and Children can be easily distracted, especially when around other children.

In short, kids are not adults - and it's up to drivers to compensate for these differences. Please join Tredyffrin Township Police Department and AAA Motorists Association in keeping all of our kids safe!
