A colleague of mine was having a problem with her detectors sounding without any presence of smoke or possible carbon monoxide. But, before she committed to replacement of the devices, per my recommendations and an article she researched online suggested that a simple cleaning or vacuuming from time to time could go a long way to adding longevity to the detectors. When struggling with those stairs during your vacuuming routine, just reach up from time-to-time and hit those cobwebs on and around the detectors. This could go a long way with your wallet, not to mention the peace of mind knowing your equipment is in top shape and ready to perform.   Let me close with what may be useful if you are preparing to sell a home or just would like to know that your home detection system completely complies with current building codes and standards:   R314.3 Location. Smoke alarms shall be installed in the following locations: In each sleeping room. Outside each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms. On each additional story of the dwelling, including basements and habitable attics but not including crawl spaces and uninhabitable attics. In dwellings or dwelling units with split levels and without an intervening door between the adjacent levels, a smoke alarm installed on the upper level shall suffice for  the adjacent lower level provided that the lower level is less than one full story below the upper level.  Regional Southeastern PA Household Hazardous Waste Events   The Household Hazardous Waste events for 2015 are scheduled.
